Georgia Supreme Court Disqualifies Fani Willis From Prosecuting President Donald Trump

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is now barred from prosecuting President Donald Trump in the 2020 election interference case, according to a decision issued by the Georgia Supreme Court.

The Court ruled 4-3 against hearing the appeal of the lower court decision that disqualified Willis from continuing to prosecute the case due to her romantic relationship with special-prosecutor Nathan Wade.

The ruling presents a crushing blow to Willis’s reputation, who commented on the ruling shortly after the decision was released. She continues to respect the courts and the legal process but disagrees with the decisions of the lower court and Supreme Court.

“Accordingly, my office will make the case file and evidence available to the Prosecuting Attorneys Council for use in the ongoing litigation,” Willis added. “I hope that whoever is assigned to handle the case will have the courage to do what the evidence and the law demand.”

Now that the Fulton DA has been removed, the case against President Trump is in jeopardy. In order for it to move forward, the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council (PAC) of Georgia will have to find someone else.

For context, PAC is a nonpartisan organization that provides assistance and expertise to attorneys in Georgia. Whoever they assign to the 2020 election interference case, will be presented with a number of options.

They will be free to continue prosecuting the case or they can simply choose to dismiss it altogether. If they do choose to continue prosecuting the case, it’s highly unlikely that the President could even be prosecuted.

Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R) celebrated the decision, calling Willis’s case a ‘political circus’ and remarked on how she has now lost twice in the court system.

“Georgia deserves better than a DA who weaponizes the justice system for her own political gain,” Jones expressed. “Today justice is served for Georgia, and justice is served for President Trump.”

Representative Mike Collins (R) joined this celebration by posting the decision on X and calling the case against Trump a ‘witch hunt.’
