Georgia Republicans and Democrats have united to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center, took 2,977 innocent lives, and changed the United States forever.

“As we reflect on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the more than 3,000 lives taken from us that day, we are reminded that despite threats to the freedoms and ideals that make us who we are, America is always strongest when we are united,” Governor Brian Kemp (R) shared on X. “We honor the first responders who put their fellow Americans’ lives above their own – without regard to political, religious, or racial differences – and look to the memories of that day and what came after it to bring our nation together today.”

Representative Rich McCormick (R) shared a similar message, remarking on the unity of the country to ‘never forget.’ He stated, “as a nation, we stand united in our resolve to never forget and to honor the sacrifices and heroism of that catastrophic day.”

Rep. Mike Collins (R) went further with a lengthy post detailing what exactly happened during the attack. “The attacks, which also included a fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control, represented one of the deadliest days in American history and led to significant changes in U.S. domestic and foreign policy,” he expressed.

Rep. Nikema Williams (D) called the 9/11 attacks ‘senseless,’ and expressed her mourning for the victims and their families. She added, “we will never forget those we lost, or the bravery of the first responders and workers who went above and beyond the call of duty.”

Rep. Lucy McBath (D) expressed a similar message, thanking the first responders who saved countless lives in the aftermath of the attacks. “Invisible scars remain and continue to impact families across our nation. We must never forget,” she shared.

Finally, Senator Raphael Warnock (D) remarked on how he’ll never forget where he was 24 years ago when the attacks occurred, when the United States was changed forever. Warnock concluded, “as we remember those we lost today, I’m praying for their souls, their loved ones, and our entire country. Never forget.”
