An active shooting occurred at Fort Stewart earlier today, where five soldiers were shot and moved to the Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. The shooter has been apprehended, and there is currently no active threat to the community.

The shooting took place in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, and the Fort was placed on lockdown for about an hour. Law enforcement was dispatched to the area at 10:56 am and apprehended the shooter at 11:35 am.

The soldiers were treated by emergency medical personnel at 11:09 am. Fort Stewart lifted the lockdown of the main area, but the area where the shooting took place was under a longer lockdown.

According to Fort Stewart’s Facebook page, the incident is under investigation, and no additional information will be released until the investigation is complete. Thankfully, the area has been declared all clear of threats.

The situation has garnered the attention of Georgia lawmakers and representatives, as many come together to pray for the victims and offer support to law enforcement.
