Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Takes a Stand Against Foreign Aid With Amendments to Defense Funding Bill

Share

The Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Defense Appropriations Act is making its way through the House of Representatives, but is soon to face massive amendments from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R). Rep. Greene is targeting provisions in the bill related to foreign aid for countries that already receive billions of dollars and humanitarian aid.

Rep. Greene announced her intention on X to introduce amendments that would cut foreign aid to Israel, Jordan, and Taiwan. Her amendments would also cut funding for overseas aid and HIV prevention education.

The three countries are set to receive $500 million each, and $118 million is allocated for overseas humanitarian and disaster aid. Only $15 million is set aside for the HIV initiative.

Rep. Greene made her case that there is simply no reason why this much foreign aid should be given out. She thinks this funding would be better off serving the American people.

As for Israel, Rep. Greene argues that they already receive $3 billion every year and are perfectly capable of defending themselves. She explained, “Nuclear armed Israel seems to have their defense and debt under control, so the American taxpayers should not be required to give Nuclear armed Israel another $500 million in our U.S. defense bill.”

As for Jordan and Taiwan, Rep. Greene made the same argument. Jordan already receives $1.6 billion every year, while Taiwan received $2 billion last year, alongside the $300 million it receives yearly.

When it comes to the HIV prevention aid, Rep. Greene argues that the American people simply shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s education. Interestingly enough, Rep. Greene implies that it is a pointless endeavor anyway.

When it comes to overseas humanitarian aid, Rep. Greene argues that the U.S. is under no obligation to assist other countries, especially when they have never offered support for disasters like Hurricane Helene and the recent flooding in Texas.

Rep. Greene concluded by stating that cutting foreign aid is the easiest way to cut down on spending. She added, “The American people who are sick of paying for everyone else’s stuff thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Expecting backlash to these arguments, Rep. Greene also left messages at the end of her statement covering each amendment. For example, she stated, “Not giving another additional $500 Million to Nuclear armed Israel will not make us all anti-Semitic. Or Isolationist.”
