The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) was signed by President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025, ushering in the President’s ever-expanding economic agenda. The bill barely passed the House of Representatives with a slim majority of 218-214, much to the outrage of the Democratic Party.

Georgia Democrats were especially outraged at the passage of the OBBB after crusading against it for months.

They acted and spoke like they simply couldn’t allow the bill to pass without massive changes. Their messaging revolved around the impact on Medicaid and other funding cuts.

Figures like Senator Raphael Warnock (D) and Rep. Hank Johnson (D) labeled it the ‘big, ugly bill’ and claimed it would be a disaster for public health. As expected, they have not taken the passage of the OBBB very well.

Sen. Warnock released an official statement reiterating his rhetoric that hospitals will close, millions will lose their health care, and children will go hungry.

“We owe it to our children to fight for a future where every American has health care and the needs of working people are put first,” Warnock optimistically concluded. “In the end, truth crushed to earth will rise again.”

Rep. Johnson released an official statement comparing the House passage of the OBBB to the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021. He continued to call President Trump cruel, reckless, and corrupt, claiming that half a million people will die as a result of the OBBB.

“Good-thinking people must come together to begin rebuilding the shattered American enterprise,” Johnson concluded. “I am more determined than ever to work alongside others to promote and protect the common good.”

Rep. Lucy McBath (D) shared a similar sentiment when she explained why she voted against the bill. She decried its cuts to Medicaid stating, “Everyone deserves the chance to live a long and healthy life—this bill takes us further away from that dream while making Americans sicker. That is the reality Republicans voted for today.”

Rep. Nikema Williams released an official statement with similar messaging labeling it the ‘Billionaire Bailout Budget.’ She derided the bill's impact on public health stating, “To call this bad policy just doesn’t go far enough. It was a reckless, immoral attack on the people we’re supposed to serve."
