The House of Representatives recently passed the Department of Defense (DOD) Appropriations Act, which funds military activities for Fiscal Year 2026, has drawn a mix of praise and criticism, though, from Georgia Republicans regarding its foreign aid and regional benefits.
The bill, also known as House Resolution (HR) 4016, provides the DOD appropriations for military personnel, operation and maintenance, procurement, and research and development.
For other DOD programs, the bill provides for the healthcare, chemical agents and munitions destruction, and the Office of the Inspector General.
In addition, HR 4016 provides appropriations for Related Agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency Retirement and Disability System Fund and the Intelligence Community Management Account.
Rep. Rich McCormick (R) celebrated the bill on X, calling it a major victory for the military and the America First agenda. He also stated that the bill enables the U.S to prepare for potential threats like China.
"This legislation strengthens our military by funding next-generation aircraft and weapons, restores combat readiness, secures our borders, and counters threats from the CCP," Rep. McCormick stated. "We're putting American strength and security first."
On the other hand, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) took issue with HR 4016 for its provisions on foreign aid. She attempted to amend the bill several times, cutting a total of $1.6 billion in foreign aid.
Expressing her frustration on X, Rep. Greene stated, “Tonight all of my amendments to cut $1.6 billion of foreign aid out of our Defense budget failed because both Republicans and Democrats refuse to stop sending your hard earned tax dollars to foreign countries.”
In a follow-up post, Rep. Greene highlighted her amendment to cut funding for Ukraine. Only 76 Republicans voted for it, and every other member voted against it.
Rep. Greene concluded quite pessimistically, with the idea that voters will simply be denied what they voted for. She stated, “You thought you voted to stop the America LAST blood thirsty foreign intervention and wars. Well this is what you got.”
