The U.S. Senate recently voted to proceed with the "One Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) and begin debating it in the chamber. Senator Raphael Warnock (D) voted against the motion after crusading against the OBBB for its provisions on spending and taxes.

Sen. Warnock took a strong stance against the bill when it was still in the House and has maintained his position since then. He firmly believes the bill to be immoral and especially dangerous for people on Medicaid.

When Warnock voted ‘NO” against the motion to proceed with the bill, he cited his responsibility to Georgia for why. He stated, “I just voted NO on the motion to proceed with the Washington Republican Tax Bill. Simply put: I cannot support a bill that will cut health care, raise premiums, and kill Georgia jobs.”

Another one of Warnock’s primary reasons for opposing the OBBB is that it cuts so much spending so that billionaires can receive another tax cut. He believes Republicans are genuinely more concerned with tax cuts for the upper class than healthcare for the middle class.

“Republicans in Washington could give the middle class a tax cut AND avoid cutting health care if they wanted to,” Warnock stated. “Instead, they’re choosing to give billionaires and giant corporations another break instead.”

Faith has also been incorporated into Warnock’s opposition to the OBBB. He went so far as to stage a video of himself and several clergymen and clergywomen walking to the Senate chamber to protest the bill.

Warnock commented, “Faith leaders from different faith traditions joined me to bear witness as Congress moves forward with this immoral tax bill. This is a moral moment for our country. We must raise our voices together and defeat this bill.”

Alongside this, Warnock posted a video of himself leading the faith leaders in a group prayer. The prayer focused on doing the Lord’s work to fight against cruelty and do good.

Warnock commented on the video, “I offered a prayer for the nation as the Senate moved forward with the GOP tax bill. But prayers are not enough, we must meet our words with action.”
