Senator Raphael Warnock (D) has taken a strong stance against the big, beautiful bill, making the bill into a moral issue and shamed those who voted for it.

Sen. Warnock has posted many times on X about his opposition to the big beautiful bill. He has even referred to it several times as the ‘big ugly bill.’

Warnock’s central problem with the bill is that it cuts health care and increases the debt. He has phrased it, “Think about that. Washington Republicans want to take health care away from children and then saddle them with trillions in debt. It’s wrongheaded and it’s cruel.”

Warnock reiterated this sentiment in response to the CBO report that the bill would add $2.4 trillion to the deficit over ten years. He responded, “They’re cutting health care for kids and then saddling them with the debt from their billionaire tax cut. Shameful. I will not vote for this disastrous, immoral bill.”

According to Warnock, the bill also fails to extend tax credits that lower health insurance premiums. He commented, “Your premiums could go up by 75% or more. All because Washington Republicans chose to put partisan politics ahead of working families.”

Warnock also made it a point to respond to Musk’s controversial statement about the bill. Musk declared it to be an abomination and shamed those who voted for it. Warnock responded, “Proof positive that even a broken clock is right twice a day.”

Warnock has gone so far as to invoke the Bible for why the bill is unacceptable. He posted passages from the Gospel of Matthew where Jesus preaches about helping those in need.

Warnock commented, “Jesus came to preach good news to the poor. Policies that are bad news for the poor are the opposite of the gospel message.”

Looking at Warnock’s rhetoric, an escalation can be seen. His stance evolves from a focus on policy to one derived from religion.
