The Georgia Senate Republican Caucus has elected Senator Jason Anavitarte (R-Dallas) as its Majority Leader of the Georgia State Senate. Sen. Anavitarte will assume his new role immediately, heading into the remainder of the 2025-2026 legislative session.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “The people of Georgia, and the 31st Senate District, elected a Republican majority to lead boldly, govern responsibly, and protect our values. I come from a blue-collar family, and I carry those roots with me every day.”
Anavitarte brings experience to the role, having also served as Majority Caucus Chair. Since joining the Senate in 2021, he has also co-sponsored many popular bills.
One such example is the Fair and Safe Athletic Opportunities Act. This functions as Georgia’s own Riley Gaines Act. The bill prohibits males from participating in interscholastic and intercollegiate competitions on teams designated for females.
Anavitarte also co-sponsored the popular Distraction-Free Education Act. The bill requires school systems to enact policies regarding the use of personal electronic devices. It essentially bans the use of electronic devices in the classroom.
A final example is the Georgia Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The bill relates to the state government and enacts provisions relating to the preservation of religious freedom. As can be seen from these examples, Anavitarte has a very conservative voting record.
Sen. Anavitarte commented on his election, “Hardworking Georgians across West Georgia and beyond are counting on us, and I intend to meet this moment with focus, discipline, and a commitment to improving lives across our state. As we move through the remainder of the legislative interim, I’m ready to get to work.”
Anavitarte is well known as one of the youngest Hispanic officials to be elected in the state. He served as a member of the Doraville City Council and the Paulding County Board of Education.
