Minnesota experienced a shocking incident of political violence recently, as two Democratic lawmakers were the targets, and unfortunately, one was killed.

State Rep. Melissa Hortman was shot and killed alongside her husband. State Rep. John Hoffman and his wife were shot, but fortunately made it out alive.

Thankfully, the suspect is now in custody after a state-wide manhunt. He was identified as Vance Boelter, but the police have yet to establish a motive.

This incident has shocked lawmakers around the country, especially in Georgia. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have united to denounce this political violence.

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) called the attack horrifying and prayed for the victims and their families. He continued, “Violence is never the answer. We must stand together and reject political violence in every form. America is better than this.”

Rep. Lucy McBath (D) shared a similar comment. She expressed gratitude at the capture of the suspect and prayed for the victims and their families.

McBath continued, “Political violence is never the answer and must end. Everyone must condemn these targeted and brutal attacks.”

Lt. Gov. Burt Jones (R) responded in a similar way by calling for prayers. Jones also strongly denounced political violence of any kind. He concluded, “A crime against anyone for their political beliefs is reprehensible.”

Gov. Brian Kemp (R) followed suit, but also linked this incident to his support for law enforcement. He illustrated how law enforcement needs the resources necessary to keep us safe.

Kemp commented, “Our brave law enforcement officers work diligently to protect the people of our state, both those in public service and those who are not, and we will continue to ensure they have the resources and support needed to get the job done.”

Finally, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) offered a different opinion on the situation. She responded to a report that Boelter was the CEO of a private protection agency.

Apparently the agency focused on the wellbeing of the immigrant community. Greene responded to this by calling for investigations into these kinds of groups and their funding.
