The House of Representatives passed the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act and other bills addressing immigration, customs, and appropriations. Alongside these bills, the House formally condemned the recent political violence in Minnesota, honoring the victims.
The first bill, House Resolution (HR) 519, condemns the attacks on Minnesota state legislators that took place on June 14, 2025. The bill also calls on the people of the United States to reaffirm our commitment to a safe, civil, and peaceful democracy.
HR 519 honors the lives of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, who were killed. It also honors Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, who were critically injured.
The next bill was HR 3944. This bill appropriates funding for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs (VA).ย
The DOD will receive funding for construction for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Air National Guard. It will also receive funding for NATO and housing purposes.ย
The VA will receive funding for its various administrations related to health benefits and departmental management.ย ย
The next bill is HR 875, also known as the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act. This bill makes driving while intoxicated or impaired a reason for barring a non-U.S. national from admission into the United States or deporting them.
HR 875 honors the memory of people like Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, who have been killed by non-U.S. nationals driving under the influence.
The final bill, HR 275, is known as the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act. This bill requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to report monthly on non-U.S. nationals who attempt to unlawfully enter the country and potentially pose a national security risk.
The DHS must also report on the number of individuals, the nationalities or countries of last residence of these individuals, and the location of the encounters.
