Former special government employee Elon Musk has come out on X, slamming the big, beautiful bill as an abomination. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) responded by defending the bill. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) responded with criticism and reluctant support for it.

Musk stated his criticism as if he had been holding back for a long time. He called it outrageous and criticized it for unnecessary spending.

Musk stated, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Speaker Johnson fired back by denying Musk’s claims. He replied, “With all due respect, Elon is simply wrong about the One Big Beautiful Bill.

He continued, “Our legislation comprehensively delivers on every major campaign promise and the America First agenda, while ALSO securing historic savings of more than $1.6 TRILLION.”

Johnson prefaced his statement with appreciation of DOGE and Musk’s work. He continued by claiming that DOGE cuts would soon be codified.

Rep. Green weighed in on both sides of the argument. First, she criticized the bill for a specific section on artificial intelligence.

The section strips states of their right to legislate on or regulate AI for ten years as of the bill’s enactment. Greene commented, “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.”

This section is not related to spending whatsoever, so its inclusion is a baffling choice. Greene called for the Senate to erase that section.

Second, Greene defended the bill as a good alternative to the current spending plan. She prefaced this by acknowledging the bill’s failings as it relates to spending.

Greene commented, “Passing the (big, beautiful bill) is a critical step toward delivering the America First MAGA mandate voters gave us in November.”

Speaker Johnson hopes to have the bill passed and on the President’s desk by July 4th. By that point, the bill may be quite different.
