Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr has taken a firm stand against rioting ahead of upcoming protests. Protests against ICE raids and deportations are being planned for the upcoming weekend.
The violent protests in Los Angeles all started because of ICE raids. They escalated to the point where President Donald Trump saw it necessary to send in the National Guard.
The riots in LA have done more than wreak havoc. They have also inspired a new wave of protests nationwide.
Protests have already started in Atlanta, GA, and are expected to escalate. This has invited the attention of AG Carr.
Carr released a statement warning rioters that they could be charged with counts of domestic terrorism. He reiterated that all Americans have the right to protest, but no one has the right to destroy property or attack law enforcement.
Carr made it clear that there is no gray area between the two. He warned that those charged with domestic terrorism could face 5-35 years in prison.
The statement concludes, “We are not California or New York. We are Georgia. We don’t make excuses for criminals here. We prosecute them.”
Carr commented on the LA riots and supported President Trump’s move to send in the National Guard. He said it was good to have a partner who is committed to enforcing the law.
Carr also stated, “While the left looks the other way, in Georgia, we call this Domestic Terrorism. Charge them all.”
Republican Attorneys General released a joint statement on the issue, unanimously supporting the President’s orders. Carr led the effort, and the statement is pretty clear.
The statement reads, “In California, we’re seeing the results of leadership that excuses lawlessness and undermines law enforcement. When local and state officials won’t act, the federal government must.”
