Gov. Brian Kemp continues to focus on Georgia’s economic development. His recent agreement with Georgia Power and his partnership with Mercedes-Benz highlight this commitment. Energy prices are set to stay the same, and more business is expected to come to Metro Atlanta.
First, Kemp has reached an agreement with Georgia Power to freeze energy rates for three years. The intent is to make sure that Georgians save money and the state remains an affordable place to live.
Kemp commented on X, “This morning, I was proud to join (Georgia Public Service Commission) Chairman Jason Shaw and Commissioner Bubba McDonald to celebrate the proposed agreement to freeze (Georgia Power) energy rates for three years, benefiting hardworking Georgians and further positioning us as the best state to live, work, start or grow a business, and raise a family!”
This agreement fits into Kemp’s larger goal of making Georgia more appealing. His goal has been to make Georgia stand out economically from other states.
For example, Kemp criticized Washington State for passing a new budget that enacts $9 billion in new taxes. He stated that this was only passed as a way to address the state’s $16 billion deficit.
Kemp continued, “In Georgia, our budget is balanced, we are cutting taxes and sending $1 billion in special tax refunds back to taxpayers, all while making important investments in our priorities.”
Next, Kemp announced that Mercedes-Benz would be establishing Atlanta as its central headquarters. This will move 500 jobs to Metro Atlanta. The company also plans to build a new research and development facility in Fulton County.
Sandy Springs, in particular, will house existing sales teams. The city has invested in new infrastructure, and Mercedes-Benz has greatly appreciated it.
Kemp commented, “We're excited that a job creator that already has close ties to Georgia is doubling down on that choice and growing their presence here in the best state for business and opportunity.”
Mercedes-Benz centralizing its operations is expected to benefit Georgia’s economy. The company believes that its operational capacity will be enhanced by this move.
