An anti-Israel shooting occurred where two staff members from the Israeli Embassy were killed outside a Jewish Museum. The museum hosted an event for young diplomats sponsored by the American Jewish Committee. The shooter was heard chanting “free, free Palestine” and was identified as Elias Rodriguez of Chicago.
This shooting has lawmakers from both sides of the aisle in an uproar. Everyone from everywhere is calling for an end to this violence. Georgia lawmakers are no exception.
First, Rep. Buddy Carter (R) expressed his rage at the incident. He also called for prayers for the victims and justice.
Carter stated, “I am enraged by the violence against the Jewish community in our nation’s capital last night. Antisemitism is an evil with no place in America or anywhere else in the world.”
Second, Rep. Mike Collins (R) expressed his mourning and declared that violence has no place in this country.
Collins stated, “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the two Israeli Embassy staffers who were murdered last night. When you hear college students chant 'globalize the intifada,' this is what they mean. Do not mistake their intentions.”
Third, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) described the crime as “absolutely horrible.” Greene stated, “The couple were set to be engaged next week, absolutely horrible. My prayers go out to their families and friends. Violence and murder is never the answer.”
Fourth, Rep. Hank Johnson (D) strongly condemned the murders and called the act “despicable.” He went on to call for peace.
Johnson continued, “There is no justification for this despicable act. Violence is not the answer. Peace and love is.”
Finally, Senator Raphael Warnock (D) called for an end to violence and described the act as a “senseless killing.” He called for prayers for the victims and peaceful cooperation.
Warnock stated, “I am heartbroken to hear of the senseless killing of 2 precious young people last night near the Capital Jewish Museum. Hate has struck again. It must ALWAYS be condemned and this violence must stop.”
While divided along party lines, Georgia lawmakers typically unite when it really counts. Uniting to flatly reject this senseless violence is a good sign.
