Recently, the Trump administration has moved to slash federal funding by targeting U.S. health agencies. Organizations like the FDA and notably the CDC experienced layoffs where up to 20,000 people lost their jobs. Georgia Democrats had a lot to say in response to this.

First, Senator Raphael Warnock slammed the cuts and declared them to be a disgrace. He stated, “The mass firings that took place at the CDC today leave us all less safe than we were yesterday. This is a disgrace and a grave mistake.”

Warnock continued in an official statement. He began by emphasizing the impact this will have on Georgians. He followed up with how the consequences of these layoffs would be felt in the future.

Warnock commented, “I cannot think of a worse idea than firing the people who keep us healthy and safe from disease.”

Second, Senator Jon Ossoff concurred with Warnock by condemning the mass layoffs. In his official statement, Ossoff stated, “This foolish attack on America’s preeminent public health agency leaves Americans exposed to deadly outbreaks.”

Third, Representative Lucy McBath expressed her own outrage at the cuts with a lengthy letter directed towards Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy.

McBath commented, “The latest mass cuts at the @CDCgov and @HHSGov egregiously undermine the health of the American people and the Medicare and Medicaid benefits that millions rely on. I sent a letter urging the immediate reversal of these dangerous actions.”

Finally, Representative Hank Johnson put out his own official statement lambasting the mass cuts. He stated, “Kennedy, Trump, and co-president Musk are endangering the lives of and well-being of everyone.”

Johnson also commented, “Reckless cuts to the CDC, NIH, and the FDA...are endangering the lives and well-being of everyone. Everyday Americans will suffer and die from the ignorant actions of these elitists for generations to come.”
