Georgia General Assembly Addresses Tech, Finance, and Governmental Affairs

A number of different committees of the Georgia General Assembly discussed topics important to Georgians. These committees were from both the House and Senate and addressed taxes, grants, and intragovernmental coordination.

First, the House Technology and Infrastructure Committee discussed two different bills. They began with Senate Bill (SB) 111, also known as the Georgia Consumer Privacy Protection Act.

SB 111 focuses on protecting the privacy of consumer personal data in this state. It is meant to align Georgia with twenty other states.

SB 111 balances a great business environment with data privacy. It easily passed to the Rules Committee.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Takes Aim at NPR and PBS at Recent DOGE Committee

In a recent exchange with a reporter, President Trump expressed his opinion on NPR and PBS receiving taxpayer funds. Trump stated that the funds were wasted on biased entities like them.

On the question of defunding them, he stated, “I would love to do that. I think it's very unfair, it's been very biased — the whole group... the kind of money that's being wasted, and it's a very biased view."

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) concurred with the President. Then, she confronted NPR and PBS executives at a recent DOGE Committee hearing.

Ossoff, Warnock, Scott Introduce Bill to Establish Georgia's First National Park — By Dome Politics' Jackson Bakich — Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Representatives Austin Scott (R-GA), and Sanford Bishop (D-GA) have introduced legislation to establish Georgia's first national park and preserve. The bill, known as the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act, would federally protect the area in Macon, Georgia.

Georgia General Assembly Tackles Transgender Issues and Passes Other Bills on Industry and Regulation — By Dome Politics' James Swafford — Various committees of the Georgia General Assembly passed a number of different bills. The most notable ones addressed issues related to transgenderism. The House focused on that issue while the Senate addressed other problems.

Republicans Circle Wagons Around Trump Admin After Chat Leak — By Dome Politics' Mateo Guillamont — Republican lawmakers are defending President Donald Trump’s administration as they face criticism for enabling a leak of military information after granting a journalist access to a private channel used by top defense and intelligence officials. The Atlantic’s Editor in Chief Jeffrey Goldberg recently claimed he was added to a Signal chat with top Trump administration officials where they discussed the US’ recent strikes on Houthi targets.

Crockett Addresses 'Governor Hot Wheels' Comment about Abbott — By Dome Politics' Jackson Bakich — Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has responded to criticism concerning her comments about Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX). At a Human Rights Campaign event, Rep. Crockett referred to Gov. Abbot as "Governor Hot Wheels" and a "hot ass mess." Gov. Abbott has used a wheelchair since 1984 after he was hit by a falling tree while jogging. He has been paralyzed from the waist down since.
Waltz Addresses 'Signal Gate' — By Dome Politics' Jackson Bakich — National Security Advisor and former Congressman Mike Waltz (R-FL) spoke to Laura Ingraham on Fox News after he appeared to inadvertently add editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a text chain on the Signal messaging app. Key members of the Trump administration included Vice President JD Vance (R), Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
