Georgia Lawmakers React to Trump Dismantling the Department of Education 

President Donald Trump (R) recently signed an executive order directing the Secretary of Education to begin dismantling the Department of Education. To fully abolish the department however, Trump will need congressional approval. So far, lawmakers seem split on the decision, especially Georgia lawmakers.

Senator Raphael Warnock (D) came out on X with a strong statement of disapproval. He declared it to be “reckless” and an attempt to defund public education in order to pay for tax cuts.

Ossoff Urges Secretary Rubio to Reinstate Peanut Lab Funding 

Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) recently wrote a letter to his former colleague and current Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, regarding the budget cuts to USAID that have affected Georgians, specifically the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Peanut at the University of Georgia. With Secretary Rubio serving as the acting administrator, Sen. Ossoff has written Secretary Rubio in hopes of reinstating funding to the lab.
