Georgia General Assembly Addresses Insurance, Tourism, and Banking With New Bills
The General Assembly continues to engage in discussions over a slew of new bills. All kinds of committees met today to discuss issues with insurance policy, electronic fees, and tourism. Several bills passed with little feedback while others took up to an hour to pass.
House:
The House Insurance Committee started with Senate Bill (SB) 109. This bill seeks to prohibit a life insurance policy from excluding or restricting liability for certain deaths occurring while an individual is an active duty service member. It passed to the Rules Committee with almost no pushback.
Senate:
The Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee began with Senate Resolution 323. This bill prompted the creation of a study committee focused on how to make Georgia the premier state for tourism. The bill passed to the Rules Committee.

Lawmakers to VA Secretary Collins: VA Electronic Health Record Deployment A 'Bipartisan, Multi-Administration Disaster'
Beginning this year, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) will restart deployment of its Electronic Health Records Modernization (EHRM) program, a move that is drawing concern from a bipartisan group of lawmakers.

Texas Rep. Self Addresses Transgender Rep. McBride as 'Mr.', Chaos Ensues — By Dome Politics' Jackson Bakich — The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe witnessed a very quick hearing after Chairman Keith Self (R-TX) introduced transgender Representative Sarah McBride (D-DE) as "Mr. McBride," causing the hearing to descend into chaos. Upon referring to Rep. McBride as a man, the Delaware legislator referred to Rep. Self as "Madam Chair," and Representative Bill Keating (D-MA) immediately interrupted Self and asked him to repeat himself.
Georgia General Assembly Passes More Bills Concerning Vehicles, Industry, and Family Management — By Dome Politics' James Swafford — It was busy under the Dome today as committees of the General Assembly met to deliberate over more bills. The various committees that met were concerned with industry regulation, motor vehicles, and adoption services. To start, the House Motor Vehicle Committee met today to discuss license plates, fines, and penalties. House Bill (HB) 449 was first on the agenda. In GA, if a person pays a fine for a traffic violation online instead of appearing in court, points could still be added to their license.
Rubio and Waltz Announce Ukraine's Acceptance of 30-Day Ceasefire Proposal — By Dome Politics' Mateo Guillamont — Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz have announced Ukraine’s acceptance of a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. “Today, we've made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and into immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that's enduring and sustainable," announced Secretary Rubio.
Rubio in Saudi Arabia to Lead Negotiations With Ukraine — By Dome Politics' Mateo Guillamont — Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for negotiations with Ukrainian officials on a potential end to the Russia-Ukraine war. Secretary Rubio’s meeting with Ukrainian officials follows President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelesnkyy’s recent acerbic discussion in the Oval Office.
Warnock Aims to Return Withheld Taxes to Coast Guard Veterans — By Dome Politics' Jackson Bakich — Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) introduced the bipartisan Coast Guard Combat-Injured Tax Fairness Act to aid Coast Guard veterans. The bill aims to "return improperly withheld taxes back to combat-injured U.S. Coast Guard veterans" and ensure they receive the same treatment as wounded veterans of the other branches.

Various subcommittees came together to discuss new bills concerning public safety, health, and human services.
US Military Targets ISIS Operatives In Conjunction With Syrian Militants — By Dome Politics' Mateo Guillamont — US Central Command (CENTCOM) is reporting the recent capture of ISIS-K leadership as a result of a joint mission between US forces and armed Syrian groups. CENTCOM claimed its forces had cooperated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of armed Kurdish groups, to capture Salah Mohammad Al-Abdullah, an ISIS cell leader, in the vicinity of Shahil, Syria.
