Senator Chuck Schumer (D) has faced an enormous amount of backlash following the passage of the GOP-drafted funding bill. Along with nine other democrats, Schumer decided to vote to pass the bill forward.
Democrats from both the media and the party have come out to criticize him going along with the bill. A notable example comes from his appearance on the View when host, Sonny Hostin, chimed in. She said to him directly, “I think you caved.”
MSNBC contributors did not hold back either when reacting to Schumer’s decision. Host Michael Steele of “The Weekend” stated that the Republicans punked Schumer into going along with their agenda. Host Symone Sanders Townsend declared she would be changing her party registration to Independent as a result of Democrats voting for the bill.
Democrats have gone so far as to demand that Schumer resign from his leadership position. A petition on Change.org has garnered over twenty thousand signatures. People who sign the petition pledge to stop donating to Democratic groups until Schumer steps down.
Republicans have also found opportunities to criticize Schumer for his conduct. On the same appearance on the View, Schumer mocked wealthy individuals for desperately wanting to hold on to their wealth.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R) slammed Schumer on X for his comments. He stated, “Like the Democrat party at-large, Schumer is so out of touch with the American people that he would MOCK hardworking taxpayers for wanting to keep more of the money THEY EARN and run the businesses THEY OWN. Seriously, Chuck?”
