Representatives Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) and Rich McCormick (R-GA) celebrated "School Choice Week" in Washington, D.C. in hopes of bringing awareness to an issue Republicans have been seeking to codify for years. As U.S. News puts it, school choice refers to "programs and policies that let families use public money to access schools beyond their local option, including private schools."
Rep. Loudermilk shared that "educational freedom is key" for students to receive the schooling that is right for them in the long run.
Every child should have the opportunity to access a quality education, no matter their zip code. Expanding educational freedom is key to unlocking the American Dream and ensuring parents are empowered to help their kids succeed. #SchoolChoiceWeek pic.twitter.com/GSPXGT9UnP

Furthermore, Georgia Republican Rep. McCormick stated that he will "continue the fight" on this issue.

Moreover, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared that President Donald Trump (R) is with Republicans such as Reps. Loudermilk and McCormick on this issue and has been recently briefed on the country's children's benchmarks.

"The Nation's Report Card was released this week, and the news is not good. It showed that US students had record low reading comprehension scores last year," began Press Secretary Leavitt. "It's National School Choice week, and in part of the President's commitment to education, he just left a round table in the Roosevelt Room focused on this issue with leaders from across the country. The National Report Card showed that 70% of eighth graders were below proficient in reading, and 40% of fourth graders did not even meet the basic reading levels. This is completely unacceptable to the President, and he continues to take aggressive actions to address this education problem in our country."
Furthermore, Leavitt mentioned that President Trump has made education a priority during his first 11 days in office.
"He signed an executive order this week prohibiting federal funding of the indoctrination of our children, including radical gender ideology and critical race theory in the classroom. The President believes American education should focus on cultivating patriotic citizens who are ready for the workforce, and this action will help get schools back on track and defend fundamental parental rights in education," said the Press Secretary.
