Lt. Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) released a statement after the Georgia State Senate announced it will investigate former Peach State legislator and gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

According to Greg Bluestein of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia legislative body will investigate Abrams' voting rights group, the New Georgia Project (which recently admitted to breaking 16 campaign finance laws), and Power Forward Communities, a non-profit allegedly linked to Abrams that received a $2 billion federal grant from the Biden administration.

Georgia's Senate Special Committee will administer the investigation.

Lt. Gov. Jones shared that "nobody is above the law" in the State of Georgia.

"The people of Georgia were defrauded by Stacey Abrams. She’s now been forced to admit it and tried to get it to go away. But Georgians want real accountability," said Lt. Gov. Jones. "With these subpoena powers, my office is going to get to the truth. In Georgia, nobody is above the law, even if they were a darling of MSNBC. Anyone who broke the law and stole from taxpayers, including Stacey Abrams, should go to jail."

This news comes just days after Jones provided comment to the news of Power Forward Communities scandal uncovered by EPA Director Lee Zeldin and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In response, Lt. Gov. Jones shared that the "scam" allegedly committed by Abrams and her non-profit has now come to light thanks to President Donald Trump (R) and Elon Musk's DOGE initiative.

"Stacey Abrams has been running a scam on Georgians for years. Joe Biden allowed her to take the scam to a new level. Thanks to @POTUS and @Elonmusk, the grift has been exposed," said Jones.

The Peach State's second-in-command recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Dome Politics and discussed Georgia's efforts to cut waste and spending in the state government. Donned the Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025, Lt. Gov. Jones' bill follows in the footsteps of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative at the federal level.

Lt. Gov. Jones reintroduced the Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025 in January at the beginning of the legislative session.
