Gov. Brian Kemp and his State of the State Address
As expected, Gov. Brian Kemp will deliver the 2025 State of the State address this week where he will reiterate his commitment to Tort Reform, drive Georgia's economic footing, and tackle state infrastructure.
During the Eggs and Issues breakfast this week, Gov. Kemp addressed the 2,500 or so attendees and emphasized his commitment to challenge the trial lawyers.
Move over to Texas and Florida.
“Ensuring that Georgia not only remains the top state in the nation for business but also the top state for talent,” said Gov. Kemp.
"Along with us maintaining our status as the No. 1 state for business for more than a decade, these achievements are all a part of a track record that everyone in this room should be proud of. But as I always say, we can never rest on our laurels.
In this new year, we must remain clear-eyed and focused towards building on these successes in the future. And that begins with ensuring that Georgia not only remains the top state in the nation for business, but also is the top state for talent," Kemp added.
While Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott may take issue with Kemp's claim that Georgia is the #1 business state, Georgia has a bucket full of peachy and aggressive economic initiatives that have lead to many large US companies to plant their respective flags in Georgia.
Tort Reform – Leaders on both sides of this fight are mustering resources, and preparing for a full-scale fight. While Governor Kemp, who is unquestionably the most popular politician in the state, has staked at least a portion of his legacy on getting real reform done, the Trial Lawyer lobby has heels dug in and is ready for war. We expect the Burt Jones-led Senate to push for major reform, and pressure to land on Speaker Burns and the House to pass something impactful.
