Florida Senator Marco Rubio became the first of President Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees when he was unanimously confirmed (99-0) as the 72nd Secretary of State of the United States of America by the Senate on Monday.
Sen. Rubio was expected to cruise through the nominating process when he was first nominated. Democratic Senator Cory Booker was one of several Senate Democrats who openly sung Sen. Rubio’s praises.
Prior to being confirmed, Sen. Rubio made the inaugural rounds over last weekend, attending several gala, including the 2025 Florida Sunshine State Gala hosted by Sen. Rick Scott.
Rubio arrived late accompanied by his wife Jeanette, but still took time to talk to Florida Republicans in attendance, including Publisher Javier Manjarres, who joked that the former Senator made time to poke fun at him to his wife.
“He still found time to come up to me and recite one of his trademark and corny personal digs in his feeble attempt to poke fun at me to my wife on his way out,” said Manjarres. “While he tries to be funny, I do have to give him credit for having one of the best Tony Montana accents.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis chose Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Rubio prior to the inauguration.
