President-elect Donald Trump (R) hasn't been installed yet, but he's making headlines with claims, gripes, and accusations. In his latest comments, the president-elect announced that the Gulf of Mexico would soon be renamed the "Gulf of America," and Republicans are backing the idea. Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) has drafted a bill to make the "Gulf of America" a reality, and she's ready to file it this week.
In a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, President-elect Trump announced that he intends to rename the Gulf of Mexico, noting that the "Gulf of America" has a "beautiful ring to it." Commenting that he would be making the announcement "at a future date pretty soon," the president elect commented that the name change is "appropriate." "We do most of the work there, and it's ours," he added.
Similar to recent comments where he's mentioned incorporating Canada into the United States, reclaiming the Panama Canal, and acquiring Greenland, the comment regarding the name change has drawn condemnation from his detractors. However, Republicans are nodding their head in approval, signaling that the name change could be welcomed with open arms.
On social media, Rep. Greene not only backed the idea, but she also shared that a bill to make the name change a reality has been drafted and is ready to be presented.

"Mexican cartels currently use the Gulf of Mexico to traffic humans, drugs, weapons, and God knows what else while the Mexican government allows them to do it," she wrote on X. "The American people are footing the bill to protect and secure the maritime waterways to be conducted," she added, mentioning that "our U.S. armed forces protect the area from any military threats from foreign countries."
"It's our gulf," she argued in her social media post.
Claiming that "the Gulf of America" is "the rightful name," she wrote that "as soon as President Trump made his announcement, I directed my staff to get the bill drafted."
With the bill drafted and ready for proposal, Rep. Greene shared that she's ready to introduce the bill this week.
"Congress has to take the Trump Agenda mandate seriously and that means acting fast to enact it."
