Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan (R) has been a vocal critic of President-elect Donald Trump (R), and some might argue that he has paid for it. In a decision that has earned a swift response from Duncan, the Georgia Republican Party has voted to expel the former Lt. governor.
During the 2024 election cycle, Duncan made it clear that he was not on the MAGA train. In fact, like former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney (R), Duncan endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris (D) for president.
However, Duncan didn’t earn a Presidential Citizens Award for his opposition. Instead, he got the boot from his party.
Announcing that he had been expelled from the party, the Georgia GOP made it clear that they were done with the former Lt. governor.
“Geoff Duncan having been formally expelled, we ask that you refer to him as ‘expelled Republican Geoff Duncan’ or ‘ousted Republican Geoff Duncan’ when you go to him for quotes trashing President Trump and the Republican Party,” the Georgia GOP shared on X.
The party also shared the resolution to expel him, which argues that he committed numerous offenses like falsely implying that the president-elect had endorsed his lt. governor bid, which “fits into a larger pattern of false and exaggerated claims.”
Duncan quickly responded to the announcement on social media, writing that it’s “hard to believe this is a good use of time for a party that’s only got a limited amount of time to figure out mass deportations, world peace and global tariffs.” “Learn how to take a victory lap not light another dumpster fire,” he added.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) weighed in on the decision to oust Duncan, simply sharing on X, “expelled, ousted, and disgraced Republican Geoff Duncan belongs to the Democrats now.”
